‘Fellowship Training for Lao Pediatricians’

Vientiane (14 June 2012)– Pfizer Thailand Foundation in collaboration with Khon Kaen University’s Faculty of Medicine, Lao People’s Democratic Republic’s University of Health Sciences, and Health Frontiers recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to support the ‘Fellowship Training for Lao Pediatricians’ at a ceremony held at the University of Health Sciences in the capital of Lao PDR.  Under the program, scholarships are offered to Lao pediatricians to further their studies in Pediatric Hemato-oncology as well as infectious diseases in children for three years at Khon Kaen University.  The program aims to address Lao PDR’s shortage of health care personnel in these specialized disciplines.  Pfizer Thailand Foundation is offering the fellowship for Lao pediatricians to attend the three-year training program at the Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University.  The curriculum is developed under the collaboration of the Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University, and the Faculty of Postgraduate, University of Health Sciences, which has been approved by the Ministry of Education of Laos PDR.  The fellowships are worth Bht 170,000 per person per year, totaling more than Bht 1 million.  After completion of the training course, they will serve as teachers to help train fellow pediatricians in Lao PDR.  The selected recipients to receive the scholarship are Sonphed Sysulingo MD and Bundid Chumphonphakdi, MD.
