Representing their organizations to deliver the Memorandum of Understanding for the Fellowship Training for Lao Doctors at the ceremony were Mr. Christian Malherbe, Trustee of Pfizer Thailand Foundation; Assoc. Prof. Charnchai Panthongwiriyakul, MD, Director of Srinakarin Hospital, Faculty of Medicine, Khon Kaen University; Assoc. Mr. Christian Malherbe, Trustee of Pfizer Thailand Foundation, said, “Pfizer Thailand Foundation carries out the mission of Pfizer Inc. and Pfizer (Thailand) in elevating the peoples’ quality of lives.  Pfizer (Thailand) has continually worked on research and development to come up with quality products while Pfizer Thailand Foundation’s role is make people’s lives better by working with local communities in activities that promote and improve living quality and education.”

“The Foundation recognizes the importance of promoting and developing health care personnel in Thailand and Indochina.  For the financial support given to Lao and Thai physicians, the scholars have been found to be qualified in both their study records and their voluntary contribution to society.  We want the scholars to have an attitude and a commitment to the pursuit of knowledge for professional mastery so that they can work to benefit their communities and countries in the future,” said Mr. Malherbe.

“Thailand and Laos are neighbor countries that have always helped each other.  Today, Laos is facing a shortage of qualified doctors in specialized fields, particularly in childhood cancer and infectious diseases.  So Pfizer Thailand Foundation has offered the opportunity through the Fellowship Training Program for Lao pediatricians to exchange knowledge in medical treatment with their Thai counterparts.  This year we also offered scholarships for Lao physicians in Gastroenterology. We will continue to carry out activities to support the health care system and education,” Mr. Malherbe added.
